NoLo (North of Loreto) is a neighbourhood on the northern side of Milan.
It refers to the area between Loreto and Turro, which extends along the entire length of Via Padova.
The neighbourhood is famous for its diverse ethnic mix and for having been home to a large part of Milan’s working class, who settled there in the 1970s in search of affordable housing.
The term “NoLo” was coined in recent years by a group of graphic designers with the intention of tracing a specific perimeter to encompass the diverse realities of an area that was geographically in an imprecise manner: in 2016, NoLo Social District was born, an online neighbourhood group inspired by the first social streets of Bologna, which aims to promote events with a social and community purpose concerning the neighbourhood.
Nord Side Wandering is a long walk that crosses the whole of NoLo: it starts in Loreto, reaches the Martesana canal, passes through Turro and ends in Cimiano.
The story begins with a reflection on the landscape and urban spaces, on the essence of a place that is experienced in a subjective and personal way when walking through it.
